We came to love our grandfather’s olive grove through the stories our father told us. They were stories of a time when the olive harvest was a joyful celebration, when lads and lasses flirted coyly and their furtive glances made the blessed fruit seem even sweeter.
We came to know anxiety over what would become of it from our grandfather. He was growing old. Our father was deeply dedicated to his work in medicine. And we – George and Demosthenis – had our sights elsewhere.
If only Grandfather could see that olive grove now! The inspiration that olives bring has been with both of us in every critical moment of our lives.
Lina Pavlakou used olive leaves and the fruit of the olive tree to craft the favours for Demosthenis’ and Angela’s wedding (2005).
Constantina Tzavidopoulou also used olive leaves and the fruit of the olive tree to craft the favours for George and Jessica’s wedding (2014).
Together we thank Lina and Constantina for using their craft to knit our grandfather’s wishes into those favours.
